How many points does each position receive?
In the Riders Championship, points are awarded as follows:
1st - 25 points
2nd - 20 points
3rd - 16 points
4th - 13 points
5rd - 11 points
6th - 10 points
7th - 9 points
8th - 8 points
9th - 7 points
10th - 6 points
11th - 5 points
12th - 4 points
13th - 3 points
14th - 2 points
15th - 1 point
In the Manufacturers Championship, points are awarded only to the first bike of that make to finish using the same distribution as above. ie. Yamaha is 1st, Honda 2nd, and Ducati 3rd. Yamaha receives 25 points, Honda 20, and Ducati 16. No other finisher on that specific make of bike receives points.
In the Teams Championship, points are awarded to the riders of the team using the same formula as in the Riders Championship, then added together. ie. Stoner comes in 1st scoring 25 points, and Melandri comes in 8th netting 8 points. The team comes away with 33 points.
